1 of 2Our trip to Morimoto in Philadelphia
Going to Morimoto was so much fun!! John and I are huge fans of the Iron Chef and couldn't resist the temptation to visit Masahiro Morimoto's restaurant in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, the Iron Chef had to fly to NY the same day we visited so we were not able to meet him but all the food we had was excellent. We had octopus and fancy fish flown in from Japan, Kobe beef, Needlefish sashimi and so many other really yummy things.

The neatest part of the restaurant was the seating that changes color. About every 15 minutes the color of the entire room changes as the lights underneath all the seats change. I was also a big fan of the molded walls. I tried to get a good picture but it's hard to tell that the designs on the walls are not hung there. They are actually molded into the wall.

Oh yeah ... on the way there we got terribly lost. We're still not sure exactly what route we took to get to Philadelphia but along the way we managed to get lost in Amish country and even saw very nice Amish women raking leaves!!!!

Downtown Philly as seen from some highway.

More downtown from unknown highway.

This was interesting. A group of people on strike protesting in front of a really big rat.

More protest.

And here we have Morimoto with the best shaped walls I've ever seen.

First course - Toro Tartar with a wild peach on the side. There's also fresh wasabi which was absolutely wonderful.

Second course - Pumpkin Porridge with Shrimp.

Third course - Matsutaki Mushrooms on Scallops with tomato, hot olive and soy sauce.

Fourth course - Wasabi Sorbet (sounds gross but it's really good!!!)

Fifth course - A fancy fish of the yellowtail family with octopus, benito, and baby spinach.

John and Ben - having the time of their lives!!!

Sixth course - This is steamed halibut with a black bean sauce in a bamboo leaf.

Sixth course - with an opened bamboo leaf.

Seventh course - Kobe beef with Japanese sweet potato

Another picture of the walls.

Eighth course - Chu toro, Carpachi, Red Snapper, Needle Fish, Anago
